The Best Nest

Last year I found little chicks on clearance at Michael's and stocked up. I stuffed them into my craft drawer and forgot about them until this week when I discovered them hiding under some tissue paper. Just in time for Easter!
I thought about putting them into plastic eggs and coming up with some kind of game, but ultimately decided that they needed nests. I read The Best Nest to my kindergarten and 1st grade groups and had them follow directions to make little nests out of construction paper, tissue paper, and brown markers/crayons. I just love spring crafts!

Egg-cellent Speech Game

I had tons of plastic eggs at my house so I made an easy do-with-every-group game out of them. I sorted the eggs and assigned a speech sound/skill to each color. I stuffed the eggs with words/directions and bam! Done! I used this activity with every group, grades K-5 for the whole day and everyone loved it.

I had originally planned on surprising students by filling some of the eggs with jellybeans. This caused them to shake each egg wildly before opening it. Jellybeans went flying. I hid the jellybeans after then first session.
This turned out to be super fun (flying jelly beans and all) and was so easy!!

Easter Egg Artic Books

I had my artic groups do drills with flashcards last week as I collected last minute data for progress reports, so this week I am making it up to them by doing some crafts. I have a very crafty group this year -- whenever they walk in and see art supplies on the table they get excited. They love coloring. They love glitter. They love paint. Pretty much anything that is going to require me to stay late at work and clean up will make my students happy, ha! So, we are making mini-books with artic practice words in them - Easter themed of course.

This is a super quick and easy activity - grab it for free at my TPT store here. Not much longer until spring break!

Cat In The Hat Marshmallow Craft

My K-1st grade students made red and white striped marshmallow hats and completed rhyming activities today. We read Green Eggs and Ham & Cat in the Hat. It was a fun (and messy!) day in speech.
